    Mrs. Helen R. La Madrid

    Sunset View Elementary School

    Room B-3

    Dear Folks,

Hello and Welcome to Fourth Grade and Room B-3. I am Mrs. Helen La Madrid aka Marsolais, and I am thrilled to partner with you in your child’s education this year. During the first few days of school, we will be discussing social skills such as courtesy, kindness, active listening, respectfulness, and responsibility. I will expect each student to practice these skills throughout the year as this will help to create a safe environment in which each child will feel valued and safe to participate in class.  Your child should bring her/his notebook home each day and back to school each day. There will frequently be notes from the school or district. Please check for these DAILY in the front of your child’s notebook.

Students will have homework Monday through Thursday nights and occasionally on weekends. Your child should read for at least 30 minutes each evening and will turn in a weekly reading response about what he/she has read. In addition to the reading response, your child will bring home a weekly Excel math sheet and any math that was not finished in class during the day. In addition, there will be several projects assigned throughout the year. The majority of the work on these projects will be done in class, but some parts will be assigned as homework.

As this page progresses, you will be able to find more information about what we are doing in class. However, there is also a Marsolais page attached to the Sunset View page where you can find our class schedule.

If you send water to school for your child to drink in class, please do not freeze or refrigerate it as the condensation makes puddles and usually manages to ruin somebody’s work. Please do not send juice or soda to be drunk in class. If your child brings a snack, please send something nutritious. A small snack is a good idea because many children get hungry long before lunch at 12:45.

This year, Fourth Grade Curriculum Night will be Thursday, September 13, from 6:15 to 7:00 PM. There will be conference sign-up sheets and volunteer sign-ups as well. I hope y’all can make it, but if not, I look forward to meeting each of you soon. It is important that we work together to make this year successful and productive for your child. With that in mind, please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
